Get started
Here we gather an overview of NAISS, resources and project types.
Instructions in how to apply and use the UPPMAX resources are gathered in the DOCS area. You will still find links to relevant sections from here!
NAISS resources
Available for all academia
NAISS (National Academic Infrastructure for Supercomputing in Sweden) funds many of our systems, and access to these are free for all Swedish academic researchers.
There are at the moment 4 national NAISS resources, available for all academies in Sweden.
- Dardel at PDC, Stockholm
- Tetralith at NSC, Linköping
- Alvis at C3SE, Gothenburg
- AI & machine/deep learning
- Bianca at UPPMAX, Uppsala
- Sensitive data
Read more about the NAISS resources.
Perhaps one of those suits you better than the local UPPMAX resource Pelle, see below.
Local resources at some centers
Some universities have compute resources for local users, i.e. PI affiliated with that university.
- Rackham at UPPMAX, Uppsala
- Pelle (soon available) at UPPMAX, Uppsala
- Kebnekaise at HPC2N, Umeå
- Cosmos at LUNARC, Lund
Undergraduate studies
- UPPMAX handle undergraduate studies needs locally
- Go to Education and training projects
Projects
In order to use NAISS or UPPMAX resources, you need a project with resources at that cluster. When a project is granted you need to create a user account at the cluster as well.
Your user account is a personal log-in to our systems.
When you apply for a project computer resources like CPU-hours and disk storage are allocated to it.
Some clusters are using GB-hours as well to monitor storage usage.

Terms and prices for special resources
Read about terms and prices of some services that comes with costs. These include:
- Storage on Lutra
- Storage on Pelle and Gorilla for Non-UU academia
- Consulting
- Non-SENS projects for Maja and storage on Gorilla (secure)
Introductory material
- Introductory material to UPPMAX
- Other introductory material in about Linux, Bash, Slurm job scheduler and Python
UPPMAX is also a cluster and cloud provider for Uppsala University educational courses. See the university course information page if you are interested in teaching with us.
If the results you get from using the resources at UPPMAX end up in a paper or are presented at a workshop or conference, we kindly ask you to acknowledge UPPMAX and NAISS.
