The Hugo Valentin Centre and the Department of History, Uppsala University, hosted the conference Historicising International Law – Could We? Should We?together with the Department of Law at Stockholm University on October 6-8. The conference brought together historians and lawyers and had a considerable international participation. Fifty participants from four continents took part, and a total of thirteen seminars were very well attended. A conference theme to be mentioned concerned the Polish-Jewish lawyer Raphaël Lemkin, who managed to escape continental Europe for Sweden during the war and laid the groundwork for the adoption of the UN Genocide Convention in 1948.

For further information, please contact Mats Deland. The conference was organised with support from Vetenskapsrådet (the Swedish Research Council).
