Short presentation
This text is not available in English, therefore the Swedish version is shown.
I min forskning undersöker jag hur människors livsvillkor, valmöjligheter och framtidsutsikter formas i stad och landsbygd. Studierna fokuserar särskilt på unga vuxna och familjers ojämlika tillgång till utbildning, arbete och boende.
Biography
I am a social and cultural geographer with research interests in geographies of social differences, migration as well as rural and urban relations.
My research explores these themes through a focus on geographies of education, a field that foregrounds wider social processes on different levels of analysis. I am currently involved in a research project that investigates families and young adults with foreign backgrounds' choice to upper-secondary school in sothern Stockholm. In this project I am working with qualitative methods to examine the transferability of resources from one educational context to another and negotiations of young adult’s aspirations and educational strategies within the family. The study combines studies of marketization of education, housing segregation and mobility. There is also a focus on implications of gender and ethnicity on school choice within and between social groups.
My previous research has investigated: (i) internationalisation of higher education and young adult’s anticipated (im)mobility in Kerala, southern India; (ii) how policy formulations are negotiated within and between supra-national organisations of education; (iii) young adults’ educational strategies in rural Sweden in relation to local, regional and national labour markets. (iiii) Return migration of university graduates to rural areas.
