Research

I study the economies of the Viking Age and the Middle Ages in both material and textual sources. My particular research interest concerns Viking Age trade contacts with the Islamic world and the importance of silver in Viking Age society. Other areas of interest are the medieval urbanization on Gotland and studies of practice and liturgy in medieval church space
