Short presentation

Plasmonics

Our research is focused on the development and understanding of plasmon-based systems capable of producing chemicals (artificial photosynthesis and photo-redox catalysis), electricity, and other cool stuff with light.

Spin-out for transparent plasmonic coatings

Jacinto Sá is the founder of Duck Technologies AB, a spin-out company that is developing a highly transparent coatings to address overheating problem in buildings, vehicles and photovoltaics.

Biography

Full professor of Physical-Chemistry at Uppsala University and associate professor at the Institute of Physical Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences, Poland. Also, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Duck Technologies.

Graduated from the Universidade of Aveiro, Portugal, in 2003 with master's thesis at TU Vienna, Austria. PhD from the University of Aberdeen (2007), the UK. Postdoc and senior research at Queen's University Belfast (UK), ETH Zurich, Paul Scherrer Institute and EPFL (Switzerland) and TU Munich (Germany).

Research

My research group studies the fundamental interactions between light and matter, with a focus on how light is converted into electrical charges in plasmonic systems and induces near-field effects. Using advanced laser-based spectroscopies, we track these processes in real time. The insights we gain inform the design of photosystems for chemical production and nanophotonic applications. This latter work led to the creation of Duck Technologies, a company developing advanced coatings to mitigate overheating problems.
