Biography
I conduct research within two main areas: children's interaction with AI and social development
1. Children's interaction with artificial intelligence (AI)
My aim is to understand how the interaction between children and AI unfolds, and what potential risks and opportunities this entails from a developmental psychological perspective. Key questions concern, for example, children’s trust in AI systems and how these interactions affect learning. A broader goal is to provide empirical foundations for the development of guidelines on children’s use of AI at an early stage, before society establishes a deeply entrenched relationship with this rapidly evolving technology. This work includes studies on both screen-based AI systems and embodied agents such as social robots.
2. Social development in infants and young children
This line of research focuses on the mechanisms underlying early nonverbal communication, such as the ability to interpret others’ gaze. I am also interested in how early social development relates to later-emerging socio-cognitive abilities, including language and perspective-taking.
In addition, I examine how contextual factors, such as the parent-child relationship and parental mental health (e.g., depression), influence social development. A further area of interest is how these developmental processes may vary or align across different cultural contexts.
