Short presentation

I have worked as a senior lecturer in Estonian at Uppsala University since 2021. I teach Estonian at all levels (Estonian A–C), and at master's level (Finno-Ugric languages with a focus on Estonian D–E). I supervise degree projects and doctoral students in Finno-Ugric languages.

Biography

I am a senior lecturer in Estonian at the Department of Modern Languages. Previously, I worked as a researcher and lexicographer at the Institute of the Estonian Language in Estonia.

Teaching

Estonian has been taught at Uppsala University since 1901, and today it is the only university in the Nordic countries where this language can be studied. Since 2007, all Estonian language teaching has been conducted online, enabling students from far beyond Uppsala to access our courses.

As Estonian studies are taught online, the courses are supplemented by optional meetings and seminars. We have an active exchange programme with the University of Tartu, involving reciprocal study visits where students have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the country, the language and the Estonian university environment.

Research

My research interests are lexical semantics, especially from a conceptual-semantic perspective, morphosyntax, word formation, pragmatics, contrastive linguistics, multilingualism, lexicography and language technology. I am also interested in the argumentative and figurative use of language.
