Short presentation
I am professor of Psychiatry at Uppsala University, and senior consultant at the psychiatry clinic, Uppsala Akademiska Hospital. I combine research, teaching and clinical work. My area of interest is early psychosis - how it occurs, what we should do about it and how we can prevent it.

Research
My research focuses on psychotic disorders, with a particular emphasis on the early stages. The long-term goal is to develop new diagnostic tools and treatments, including preventive interventions.
Psychotic symptoms often emerge early in life and can, in some cases, lead to long-term conditions such as schizophrenia, associated with significant suffering and functional impairment. Our understanding of the factors that influence the course of illness, either positively or negatively, remains limited. There is a great need for treatments that not only alleviate symptoms but also alter the trajectory of illness. A central question is how to identify individuals at increased risk of psychosis, and what interventions can prevent progression to more severe symptoms. I also work on improving the assessment of physical health risks in individuals with first-episode psychosis.
