Abla Sami

Short presentation

Abla Sami is a research assistant at the Department of Women’s and Children’s Health at Uppsala University and affiliated with U-CARE, which aims to increase wellbeing among patients and close ones living with somatic disease. 

She has a background in community and public health and experience in global health research, qualitative and quantitative methods, systematic reviews, scientific writing, and coordination of research and academic activities.

Biography

  • Abla Sami holds a Master’s degree in Community and Public Health from Birzeit University, Palestine, and a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science from Al-Quds University, Palestine.
  • Before joining Uppsala University, she worked in research and data utilization at the World Health Organization (WHO). Her work contributed to projects related to public health, cancer services, health systems, healthcare quality, and universal health coverage. She was also a member of the national District Health Information Software (DHIS2) team in Palestine and a member of the Lancet Palestinian Health Alliance (LPHA) coordination team.
  • Since 2023, she has worked as a research assistant within U-CARE and CIRCLE – Complex Intervention Research in Health and Care at Uppsala University.
  • Her work includes qualitative and quantitative research, systematic reviews, scientific writing, project coordination, and support in grant and ethics applications. She has contributed to projects related to childhood cancer, psychosocial support, caregivers’ experiences, patient and public involvement in research, and global health.
  • She coordinates the Writing Club and Grant Writing Club at U-CARE and is involved in organizing workshops and research-related activities. She is also a member of the U-CARE Collaboration Group and the U-CARE Venue Organizing Committee.
  • She has completed additional training in mixed methods research, patient and public involvement in research, systematic reviews and meta-analysis, qualitative and quantitative research methods, and scientific writing.
  • Abla Sami has co-authored peer-reviewed publications related to childhood cancer, caregiving, psychosocial support, and patient and public involvement in research. She has also coordinated academic workshops, writing groups, and research-related activities at Uppsala University and participated in national and international research collaborations.

Research

Abla Sami’s research currently focuses on childhood cancer, caregivers’ experiences, complex healthcare interventions, and patient and public involvement in research. She works with both qualitative and quantitative methods, including systematic reviews, within projects related to psychosocial support, global health, and healthcare inequalities. Her research interests include improving healthcare experiences and outcomes for patients and families.
