Why are 9-year olds in the 2020s buying anti-age skincare?
My project concerns the Swedish beauty economy following the economic crisis of the 1970s. I am interested in how women were shaped as consumers in an increasingly visual culture, not primarily as homemakers but as employees. The objective is to map how cosmetics markets developed over time, and how this has contributed to the construction of commercial femininity in late modernity.
