Short presentation

I am a historian of science and medicine studying public health communication in modern China.

I received my PhD in History and Philosophy of Science at Cambridge University in 2024. My current project, Making Sense of the Air in China’s Socialist Industrialisation (SENSEAIR), examines occupational disease and understandings of airborne pathology in the People’s Republic of China in the 1950s and 1960s.

My surname is pronounced like 'way', but with a hard g at the beginning.

Research

My research interests include the history of health and medicine in modern China, visual cultures of science, popular science, media history, and the history of women and gender.
