Short presentation
I have been University lector in Semitic Languages at Uppsala since 2004. My research focuses on modern Arabic and Hebrew literature, in particular on how traditions, especially religious ones, are mediated through literature. My teaching encompasses all levels of Arabic, and Hebrew.
Part of my time I spend as an Educational Developer at the university.
Biography
Teaching
Primarily, i teach languages on all undergraduate levels - Arabic as well as Hebrew. I teach Arabic grammar to beginners, as well as Hebrew at all levels, and all language stages are included in our courses, from Biblical Hebrew to reading modern literary texts. I also teach more specialized courses on different levels, give introductions to research methodology to students working on their degree projects, tutor, and teach different specialized lectures or seminars on literary theory or the use of religious texts.
My teaching consists of everything from traditional lectures and seminars, to field studies, tutoring and some experiments with newer forms. Many of the groups of students that I come in contact with are very varied in terms of previous experiences and studies. This is something that poses as well a challenge - how to make sure everyone can both contribute with their particular expertize and also be challenged with new knowledge and ways of thinking.
I also work as an educational developer. I find it engaging and exciting to get the chance to discuss teaching and learning, and to get ideas by seeing how someone else teaches. I believe that our work as teachers is very important and enjoyable! For me, part of this is also to inspire and support each other as colleagues. As course leader and facilitator for our Academic Teacher Training courses as well as the Courses on Supervision of degree projects and doctoral students, I get a lot opportunities to do just that, which I find really exciting!
