Biography

I have advanced training in physiotherapy and caring science, and am a clinical specialist in physiotherapy in geriatrics and gerontology, as well as an associate professor of physiotherapy and a professor of medical science. I have authored over 70 peer-reviewed publications in international journals and have supervised 7 doctoral students until their defense.

Since 2018, I have received a total of SEK 24,260,000 in external research grants, of which:

- SEK 7,250,000 as the main applicant, with two significant grants from the Swedish Research Council (ref. no. 2017-01259) of SEK 3,450,000 and (ref. no. 2020-01056) of SEK 2,400,000 and

- SEK 17,010,000 as a co-applicant, with two significant grants from the Swedish Research Council (ref. no. 2018-02691 and 2023-01893) and one from the Kamprad Family Foundation (ref. no. 20233075), all three with the main applicant: Joanne Woodford, https://www.uu.se/en/contact-and-organisation/staff?query=N17-1340

I currently participate in the projects INVOLVERA https://www.uu.se/centrum/u-care/forskning/forskningsprojekt/involvera and DeCIDE https://www.uu.se/centrum/u-care/forskning/forskningsprojekt/decide within the multi-professional research group CIRCLE. https://www.uu.se/institution/kvinnors-och-barns-halsa/forskning/enheten-digital-halsa-och-mental-halsa/circle---interventionsforskning-inom-halsa-och-vard, U-CARE.

I am also the principal investigator for the research project ASSESS https://www.uu.se/en/centre/u-care/research/research-projects/assess. Within which several substudies with the development of methods for assessment and evaluation in healthcare are included: S-NoMAD (Swedish version of the Normalization Process Theory Measure), UDDGait-dt (Uppsala-Dalarna Dementia and Gait dual-task) and GMF (General Motor Function Assessment scale).

My background is extensive work experience, primarily in the elderly field, as: clinician, manager, care developer, care strategist, clinically focused researcher, lecturer and professor, mainly at Akademiska sjukhuset and Uppsala university. I am professor emerita at Dalarna University after my employment ended at the same university in March 2025.

Research

In my research, I use both qualitative and quantitative research methods, preferably with an interdisciplinary approach. The research is focused on two main tracks: healthy aging and disability among older people, and intervention research, including evaluation methodology, care development and implementation research.

I have had repeated expert assignments for the then Swedish Association of Local Authorities and County Councils (SKL) for the development of guidelines for fall prevention in Swedish healthcare.

I also have a strong interest in research ethics and have many years of experience working with ethical review of research in the former Regional Ethics Review Board in Uppsala, later the Swedish Ethical Review Authority
