Understanding prosocial and antisocial behavior in players
Understanding the connection between game mechanics and player behavior is an area where more research is needed, in order to better understand what contributes to both pro- and antisocial behaviors in games. We integrate state of the art psychology tests (psychophysiological and behavioral measure) with game design research and take an individualistic approach to focus on how different gamers (with different personalities, traits, and experiences) are affected by various game mechanisms. Our aim is to link individual characteristics to the microstructure of attention and decision making during the game and relate this to game mechanics and altruistic outcomes.
