Last autumn, Johan C Bärlund was appointed a new honorary doctor at the Faculty of Law, and on Friday he and Juris Doctor Anni Carlsson were conferred doctorates together with the university's other doctors at the annual winter conferment ceremony. At the ceremony, they were presented with the badges of honour; a doctoral hat, a ring and a diploma, by the Faculty of Law's promotor Rebecca Thorburn Stern. In accordance with tradition, the new doctors were also honoured with a canon salute at Uppsala Castle and the ringing of bells in Uppsala Cathedral. The graduation festivities concluded with a dinner in the Hall of State at the castle.
Johan C Bärlund is currently Professor of Nordic Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Helsinki. Last autumn he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Faculty of Law as a ‘bridge builder who brings legal research and teaching, national and Nordic law, Swedish-speaking and Finnish-speaking together and reinforces each other’.
Anni Carlsson, now at the Swedish Defence University, received her doctorate this summer with her thesis Constitutional Protection of Freedom of Expression in the Age of Social Media: A Comparative Study.
