Title: From Platonic solids to Springer theory and beyond
Mathematical Colloquium with Catharina Stroppel
Abstract: In this talk I want to give a small tour starting from Platonic solids and explain how one might naturally construct spaces/manifolds/varieties which arise in representation theory, more precisely Springer theory and sketch why representation theorists care. From that spaces we will construct a Fukaya type category. The talk is for a general audience.
Everyone is welcome!
About Professor Catharina Stroppel
Catharina Stroppel has been appointed Honorary Doctor of Philosophy at Uppsala University and will be awarded her doctorate at the Doctoral Degree Conferment Ceremony in the University House on 31 January.
Catharina Stroppel is a famous German mathematician, one of the world leaders in the area of representation theory. She has a longstanding collaboration with Uppsala university, the results of which form a significant part of her scientific achievements.
Catharina Stroppel made major contributions to the development of the modern representation theory, especially that of Lie algebras and superalgebras, diagram algebras and higher categories. This includes proofs of four conjectures by Bernstein, Frenkel and Khovanov on categorification of the Temperley-Lieb algebra; development of the theory of generalized Khovanov algebras and its application to the study of finite dimensional modules over Lie superalgebras; and also various classification and structural results in representation theory of Lie algebras.
