The magnetic field couples different layers of the solar atmosphere and governs various types of solar activity. Accurate measurements of solar magnetic field at all atmospheric layers are of critical importance. However, routine and accurate measurements have only been achieved at the photospheric level, based on spectropolarimetric observations. Due to the more complicated formation mechanism and weaker spectropolarimetric signatures in the upper solar atmospheric spectral lines, measuring magnetic field in the upper solar atmosphere remains challenging. In this talk, I will present our efforts to measure the solar magnetic field at different atmospheric layers—from the solar temperature-minimum region to the chromosphere and corona using multi-wavelength observations.
