Catalogues of older materials

If you can’t find what you're looking for in the Library Search Tool, you can search more deeply through our older catalogues and indexes. A selection of these is laid out below.

Books printed before 1962

Begin your search in Libris. If you can’t find what you're looking for, you can search further in our digitised catalogues. Items are requested directly from the catalogue:

Catalogue -1962 – books, journals and publications acquired for Uppsala University Library from the 17th century up to and including 1962. The older printed material you cannot find in Catalogue -1962 can sometimes be found in the Aurivillius catalogue:
Aurivillius and Inventariet (the Inventory) – books and journals acquired for Uppsala University Library up to and including 1796. Aurivillius contains references to the Inventory, which is organised by inventory number. The Inventory may contain more information about the book and sometimes the call number you need to request them. However, much of the material is listed in Catalogue -1962, so start your search there.
Bibliotheca Walleriana – medical and scientific literature from about 1490–1940 from the Waller collections.
Occasional Poetry – printed verses, written to individuals, on occasions such as weddings, funerals, academic appointments, etc.
Sermons – printed sermons.
Catalogue of Swedish biography – printed personalities or memorials of Swedish private individuals and royalty, e.g. funeral sermons, tribute verses and minor biographies.

Manuscripts, letters and archives

Begin your search in Alvin. If you can’t find what you're looking for, you can search further in our digitised catalogues.

Index to the Manuscript Collection – gateway to the Library's manuscript catalogues. Here you can search for personal names and find references to letters and manuscripts in various collections and archives. The information points to other catalogues, where you can read more about the manuscript, but you can also request items directly from the Index to the Manuscript Collection.
The manuscript collections, classified by subjects – the older manuscript collection is divided into different subject areas or categories, e.g. theology, law, natural history, mathematics, Swedish history.
Catalogue of Letters (older letters) – contains information on the letter writers for which there are letters, along with their recipients.

Catalogue of international maps – world maps, country maps from outside Sweden and special maps.

Music Collections

Catalogue of Music Manuscripts – 1970 – handwritten sheet music in the Library's collections up to 1970.
Catalogue of printed music -1970 – printed music in the Library's collections up to 1970.
Catalogue of music scores 1970-1980 – printed and handwritten sheet music in the Library's collections until 1980.

Pictorial Collections

Catalogue of prints – engravings and lithographs in library collections. Here you can find engraved portraits, landscapes and works of art.
Catalogue of portraits – portraits of people in the Library's collections, such as photographs, drawings and engravings.
