EIT Culture and Creativity
EIT Culture and Creativity is an EU initiative on culture and creative industries. The aim is to support collaborations between education, research, and businesses to strengthen Europe's competitiveness. The idea is that by investing in culture and creative industries, one also contributes to a better society. EIT Culture and Creativity started in 2022, and Uppsala University is one of the leading partners. About fifty European actors from academia, civil society organisations, and businesses are involved in the collaboration.
EIT Culture and Creativity is what is known as a KIC: Knowledge and Innovation Community. A KIC aims to stimulate an industry by financing various types of knowledge-intensive and innovative collaboration projects. The EU's investment in EIT Culture and Creativity means that project funds will be announced for various initiatives within culture and creative industries over a long period.
The KIC has its headquarters in Cologne, but many of its activities are run through the six regional hubs. Together with all partners from Sweden, Norway, Finland, northern Germany and the Baltic countries, Uppsala University is part of the Regional Hub North, based in Helsinki. The hub organises a range of meetings for partners – both online and in person – to create opportunities for new contacts, present partners’ activities, exchange experiences and develop new project ideas.
The main aim of UU’s involvement in EIT Culture and Creativity is to forge new connections and establish new international collaborations. We draw inspiration from other regions regarding how higher education institutions work with culture and creativity, and we gain insights into how research, in collaboration with other stakeholders in the cultural and creative sectors, can play an active role in societal change.

New platform to facilitate collaboration
Uppsala University is now pooling its expertise in research support, innovation and collaboration on the collaboration platform Uppsala University Culture & Creativity (UUC&C).
