A part of Uppsala University's cultural heritage
The Royal Academy Orchestra is one of oldest symphony orchestras in Europe, founded in 1627 by Gustav II Adolf, and is today bigger and more dynamic than ever.
Since 2002 the Royal Academic Orchestra has been led by director musices Stefan Karpe, professor of orchestral conducting at Uppsala University. The orchestra has a wide repertoire ranging from baroque music, symphonies and operas to musicals, TV game music, film music and first performances of works by Swedish composers, commissioned for the Academic Orchestra.
Make music with us!
The great majority of the orchestra’s some 100 musicians are students or employees at the University. Welcome to apply to the orchestra!

We’re going on tour!
Finally, it’s time for the orchestra to go on tour again – we’ve really been looking forward to this! Now we’re bringing Hugo Alfvén’s Dalarapsodi and a few other pieces (the same repertoire as in our spring concert in the Grand Auditorium) as we head to Vienna, Austria. We’re so excited! You can find more information about the concerts here.

ENUO
ENUO (European Network of University Orchestras) was created by Uppsala University in the fall of 2011 by Director Musices Stefan Karpe with the goal to bring the organization and the members of university orchestras in Europe together to exchange information and create opportunities for touring and exchange.
