The Humsam research support
Do you have questions about external research funding or need help moving forward? Humsam's research advisors offer qualified support for researchers in the humanities and social sciences. We have expert knowledge of Swedish and European funding bodies' terms and regulations and can guide you to relevant programmes and current calls for proposals.
If you are not yet sure what type of funding is right for your project, please feel free to contact us to discuss your ideas and get guidance on how to proceed.
What we offer
We provide advice on research funding, such as how to find the right funders and calls for proposals for you and your research. We also offer in-depth application support for certain selected funders and calls for proposals. Below, we present the more specific support we provide for different types of funders.
We help researchers:
- find the right research funder and call for proposals
- rules and conditions for funding
- information meetings on current calls for proposals and workshops
- application forms and templates
- guidance on various parts of the application
- feedback on draft applications
- interview training
- contact with research funders
We also work with:
- support for researchers, management and infrastructure preparation in matters relating to research infrastructures
- support for the collaboration group
- influencing the design of programmes and calls for proposals
- preparation for special calls for proposals (all calls for proposals that require internal prioritisation, e.g. Pro Futura)

Support for Swedish funding
For Swedish research funding, it is primarily your department that you turn to for support, both in the application phase and during the project period.
Applications that require central administration
Medfarm's research support can support you in national calls that require central administration, for example when the funder requires an internal prioritization at the University and/or requires the approval or co-funding of the management of the disciplinary domain or the University (e.g. Vice-Chancellor). For certain calls for proposals and when necessary, we offer interview training.
Complex applications
Humsam´s research support can also help you in larger and more complex applications to Swedish funders. This could, for example, be applications to VR's Center of Excellence, or other major collaborative projects.
If you have been granted such a project, we can also give you support if you have questions or concerns during the course of the project.
Other support
For other applications to Swedish funders (e.g. regular project grants or personal career grants), we can help you if you have questions and - if time allows - give feedback on selected parts of your application. We are happy to provide general advice and offer visits to your institution if you have specific questions regarding a call for proposals, would like information about research funding, or wish to organise workshops/seminars on writing applications, etc.
Support for EU-funding
The research funding mainly focuses on the EU's framework programme for research and innovation, Horizon Europe, which is most relevant for researchers in the humanities and social sciences. However, we can also help with other EU grants, depending on time and resources. We usually describe EU funding support as follows:
Pre award
- Finding the right research funder and call for proposals
- Information about rules and conditions for funding
- Disseminating information about research funding and calls for proposals
- Information meetings and workshops
- Guidance on various parts of the application, e.g. impact and implementation
- Feedback on draft applications
- Support with the application portal
- Advice on intellectual property (IP) rights
- Interview training
At award
- Information about contract processes/agreements
- Signing of contracts
- Start-up meeting
Post award
- Reporting
- Project amendments
- Answering questions
Horizon Europe
Horizon Europe is the European Commission’s research and innovation framework program for the period 2021–2027, with a budget of €95.5 billion euro. The program has three pillars and aims to broaden participation and disseminate excellence as well as reform and strengthen the European R&D system.
