Copyright and agreements

When creating educational materials for the web, the materials you wish to display may be governed by copyright law. Various agreements apply to external lecturers and the use of images and film footage of people.

Using images and clips in productions

When creating educational materials for the web, such as a presentation with images, you must have permission to use the material you may have downloaded from the internet. Copyright law regulates the author’s rights to the works (images, texts, music, photos, films, etc.) they have created.

When filming your lecture, for example, in our Do-It-Yourself studio, and making it available online, the copying agreement does not apply. To use someone else’s material in the film or presentation, you must obtain permission from the copyright holder.

Free resources for media productions

One option is to use material on the internet that is free for everyone to use. This is clear from the website and the specific image or film clip.

Today, it has become increasingly common to publish works online under a Creative Commons licence. That means that the copyright holder permits users to use the work (photo, film, illustration) in various ways. There are many different types of CC licences. It is important to determine which way you can use the material you are interested in.

Many people also want to be credited in the publication if their material is used.
