For each university, more information is available. Please note that the linked pages may take some time to load. When they open in a new window, scroll down to see all the content. For many universities, exchange reports from previous students are also available.

IBG has agreements with the following universities.

Austria

Austria doesn’t have the same semester periods as we do, but instead a winter and a summer semester.

Universität Wien
Offer a large amount of courses taught in English within biology. Courses within molecular biology are however not included in our agreement, but might be possible to arrange when the student has arrived. Students can only be admitted for one semester for a start, but at arrival they can apply for an extension and stay for a full academic year.

Belgium

KU Leuven
Courses taught in English in many fields of biology.

University of Namur
Master courses are taught in English within microbiology, biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, organism biology and ecology. Bachelor courses are taught in French.

Czech Republic

Charles University Prague
Courses taught in English in many fields of biology.

Estonia

University of Tartu
Courses mainly within Ecology, Zoology and Botany. Most courses available in English are given during the autumn semester. An exchange to Tartu is only possible for one semester, not a full academic year.

France

ENS de Lyon
The University offers a Master's programme in Bioscience, with the second year taught entirely in English. Exchange studies within this programme are most suitable during the autumn semester. However, it is possible to combine autumn courses with a degree project in the spring. Please note that Bachelor's level courses and first-year Master's courses are taught in French. To be admitted for exchange studies in Lyon, an average grade of 4 is required.

Université Grenoble Alpes
The university offers a large amount of courses in English within structure biology, development biology, neuroscience, immunology, infection biology, microbiology, cancer biology, epigenetics and nano biotechnology. Courses in ecology and biodiversity are taught in French.

Germany

Germany doesn’t have the same semester periods as we do, but instead a winter and a summer semester.

Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg
Courses given in English at advanced level within cell and molecular biology, immunology, microbiology and neuroscience.

Universität Hamburg
Exchange students can take biology courses within two master programmes that are fully taught in English, Molecular plant science and Marine ecosystem and fisheries sciences. Other fields in biology are primarily taught in German.

Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg
There are master courses taught in English in Molecular biosciences and Biochemistry. Most bachelor courses are taught in German.

Technische Universität München (TUM)
The school of life science offers a wide range of biology courses (modules) in English. Bachelor students with suitable background are allowed to take master courses.

Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen
Basically all biology courses at advanced level are taught in English. Courses are offered in Evolution and ecology, Cell and molecular plant biology, Molecular biology and Neurobiology. However only a few bachelor courses are taught in English. Bachelor may on the other hand take master courses if they have a suitable background for the course.

Greece

University of Crete (Panepistimio Kritis)
Four master programmes in biology are taught in English. During the exchange you can take courses within molecular biology, biotechnology, marine biology, ecology and conservation.
For bachelor students, only laboratory and practical courses are taught in English. It’s recommended to combine these with the bachelor thesis. As a bachelor student you are not allowed to take master courses.

Ireland

University of Galway (Ollscoil na Gaillimhe)
Here is a wide range of bachelor's level courses in cell and molecular biology, microbiology, biomedical engineering, zoology, anatomy, and physiology. The selection of courses at the master's level is more limited.

Italy

Università degli Studi di Trieste
Courses taught in English at advanced level in neuroscience, medical biotechnology, global change ecology and functional genomics.

Università degli Studi di Siena
Here you can take master courses within biodiversity and conservation, but also within biotechnology, genetics and biochemistry. Bachelor courses in biology are taught in Italian.

The Netherlands

Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen
The university has a wide range of biology courses in English within the whole field of biology, both at bachelor and master level.

Universiteit Leiden
For bachelor students, English-taught courses are offered during the autumn semester as a 30-credit minor in either Biotechnology, Human Evolution, or Biodiversity. As an alternative in the spring semester, bachelor students can combine courses in ecology and microbial evolution with a degree project.
At the master’s level, courses across the entire field of biology are offered in English during both the autumn and spring semesters.

Universiteit Wageningen
A high ranked university with a wide range of biology courses in English.

Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam
In the autumns, bachelor students are offered to attend a 30 credit minor in either ecology or evolutionary biology. Other fields, such as neuroscience, could also be possible. Apart from this, regular courses in English, in many fields of biology are given throughout the year for both bachelor and master students.

Switzerland

The Universities in Switzerland except Bern, are not part of the ERASMUS-programme, but as an exchange student, you will receive a scholarship with a similar amount as the ERASMUS grant. The Swedish study finance system CSN won’t however allow students to have the Swiss mobility scholarship at the same time as CSN. As a student, you will need to choose.

Universität Bern
Offers a wide range of biology courses in English, for example in ecology, evolution, plant biology, bioinformatics, and cell and molecular biology.
Since Bern is part of the Enlight university network, a specific Erasmus agreement has been established. Students applying here are therefore eligible for the Erasmus grant, just like for other exchanges within the EU.

ETH Zürich
ETH is one of the highest ranked technical universities in Europe. To be admitted to exchange studies, an average of grade 4 is required. There are courses taught in English in many fields of biology and also the possibility to do a degree project within the exchange.
An exchange is only possible for one semester, not a full academic year.

Université de Lausanne
Most courses are taught in French, but there is a range of biology courses at the bachelor's level that are taught in English. The majority of these courses are offered during the spring semester. The English-taught biology courses mainly focus on genomics, bioinformatics, and cell and molecular biology.

Spain

Universitat de Barcelona
The faculty of biology offers several master biology courses in English, mostly within genetics and genomics, biotechnology, immunology, biomedicine and neurosciences. At bachelor level most courses are taught in Spanish or Catalan. Bachelor students are not allowed to take master courses.

Universidad de Granada
Only a limited number of biology courses are offered in English here. You also have the opportunity to freely choose courses in other natural science subjects. We recommend that students applying to this university have some prior knowledge of Spanish. Students with a good command of Spanish (at least level B1) are given priority, as this allows them to take courses in Spanish, significantly expanding the range of available courses. Please note that the university only offers undergraduate-level courses. However, undergraduate degrees in Spain span four years.

United Kingdom

Universities in United Kingdom are not part of the Erasmus programme. For exchange studies more than six months, a student visa is required.

University of Edinburgh
Edinburgh offers courses in a wide biological field. However, only undergraduate courses are offered. At Edinburgh it is not possible to do a degree project during the exchange.
