Admission and registration

Dont forget to register!

(If Exchange student: jump directly to fourth paragraph.)

If you have been admitted to Uppsala University, you are probably eager to get started with your studies. But before you get started you need to do one important thing: you must register for the course or programme you are going to attend. Otherwise, you may lose your place in the course or programme. As a new student, in order to register the first step is to get a student account.

Read more about how to get a student account

For most of the courses at the Department of Earth Sciences you must register yourself in the IT system “Ladok for students”. However, there are some exceptions to this (see "If you cannot register yourself" below). And please notice that for all programmes there´s a roll call instead of the online registration, where You are supposed to be present to begin Your programme studies.

The registration periods for your specific courses are specified in Ladok. Note! If you do not register in time, you will lose your place and your place will be offered to someone on the waiting list. For most of the courses given by our department, the registration period opens around 2–4 weeks before the course start.

Log into Ladok for students

For exchange students: Our exchange coordinator registers you for your courses at the department of Earth Sciences when you arrive. If you need to make changes to your planned courses after term start (and/or after the registration period) you will need to be registered manually by contacting the international coordinator exchange.students@geo.uu.se or a study advisor at the department.

Schedule

A preliminary schedule will be published no later than five weeks before the course start on the course page in Studium.

Reserves

If it turns out that you can be offered a spot on the course, you will be contacted by the Department by email. Unfortunately, we are not able to answer any questions about the possibilities of this. Check your email regularly, also the spam!

Decline your place

If you do not want your place you must decline on www.antagning.se. Doing this will open up for reserve students to gain access to the programme or course.

If you cannot register yourself

(Note: exchange students do not need to register in Ladok; when they arrive to the department of Earth Sciences, they will be registered by the exchange coordinator for their courses there.)

In a few cases, you cannot register yourself; you have been conditionally admitted, or you have been admitted lately, or you have applied for a course that has for different reasons been excepted from the normal way to register.

Admitted with conditions
If you are conditionally admitted, you need to contact the study counsellor (if programme) or course director (if course) as soon as possible. Contact information to the study counsellors can be found here, and the course directors can be found on the course page in Studium.

Late applications
If you have applied so late that the deadline for registration has passed, you cannot register yourself. You need to contact the course administration as soon as possible, in order to keep your spot and be registered for the course. Here you will find contact information for the course administration:

The Department's Student Service

If you have applied for one of these courses:

1) For some degree projects, project works etc., you can apply and be admitted, but will not be registered before you have a project plan accepted by the department.

2) The Field courses, expensive for the department to arrange but giving valuable experience for the students, take place in May. Here You can´t register Yourself. Instead, payment of the student´s share of the field trip costs will be regarded as confirmation of your interest in taking part in one of these courses. The payment (which covers only around 10 % of the real costs) should be done no later than at some specified date in March or April, after which we can book housing and transportation. You will then also be registered for the course. State your name and the course code when You pay. Further details for each course will appear on the course page in Studium. (The courses are 1GV192 Field Course in Bedrock Geology, 1GV191 Field Course in Stratigraphy and Hydrology, 1MP001 Geological Field Project and 1MP039 Geodynamic Field Project.)
