Who can apply for exchange studies?

Students who have been accepted to courses in the subject of Political Science or Development Studies may apply for admission to the Department of Government's exchange programme.

The requirements for applying for exchange studies are as follows:

  • you are registered for courses in Political Science or Development Studies at Uppsala University during the term for which you apply
  • you have earned at least 30 credits at the time you apply
  • you have earned at least 30 credits in Political Science or Development Studies at the time of your departure.

When is it time to apply?

You must always apply at least one term in advance. There are two application deadlines, 30 September and 30 January. You must apply for the autumn term or an academic year by the main deadline in January. You must apply for the spring term by the secondary deadline in September. You can apply for the spring term only (regardless of your departure term) to the University of Amsterdam, University of Copenhagen, University of Bergen, University of Iceland, University of Durham, University of Salamanca and University of Warwick.

Selection

The applications are evaluated based on the foregoing eligibility rules. In cases where there are more applicants than places at the host university, the total number of credits earned with a grade of Väl godkänd [Passed with distinction] in Political Science or Development Studies will be taken into account. When applying to universities at which instruction is given in a language other than Swedish or English, strong skills in the relevant language must be documented based on scholastic grades and/or residence in a place where that language is spoken. All applicants must have excellent English skills.

After selection

Notification of selection for placement in the exchange studies programme will be sent by e-mail. You must agree to the placement by the set deadline; if you fail to do so, it will be offered to another applicant. Once you have agreed to the exchange studies placement, we will contact your host university and ask them to send you information, an application form, etc

Cancellations

Notice of any cancellation of your exchange studies placement must be provided as soon as possible to both the Department of Government in Uppsala and the coordinator at the university abroad. In the event of late cancellation, the Department of Government usually has no means of sending a replacement, and there is a high risk that the exchange placement will go unused.
