Admission and registration

Here you can find information on admission and registration to courses at the Department of Linguistics and Philology.

Admission

You need to be admitted and registered to a course to be able to participate in it. To most of our courses (some programme courses excepted) you make your application on universityadmissions.se (english results only) or antagning.se (site in Swedish).

Please note that the international and the Swedish application rounds have different dates and deadlines. You can find more information on dates and how to apply on uu.se/en/study

Apply on universityadmissions.se (international application) or antagning.se (Swedish application).

You will receive an admission decision where you are either accepted, accepted with conditions, placed on a waiting list, or denied. If you are accepted (with or without conditions) or on a waiting list you have to reply to the decision by the specified date to keep your place.

Dates for our courses (not international Master's Programmes)

  • July 10, first admission decision. You have to answer this to keep your place.
  • July 23, second admission decision (definite admission).

When you have received your definite admission decision you can acivate your student account on uu.se/en/students

You will receive information on how to register. For some programmes and many freestanding courses you can register yourself in Ladok.

  • For courses starting in March the registration will be open between March 16 and March 28.

For other programmes and courses you need to attend a roll call or the first class to be registered.

Late application

Late application to the autumn semester (courses only) opens on July 15. Late application to spring courses open on December 15.

Late applications are handled, and eligible students admitted, in the order they were turned in. Make your late application as early as possible to increase your chances of being accepted.

For late applications there is no ranking by merits, and no guaranteed place. We will only accept as many students as we have places.

If you have made a late application you will first be placed on a waiting list. We will start accepting students from the waiting list a few weeks before the start of the semester.

Admission from the waiting list

We will bein admitting students from the waiting lists from January 9th at the earliest. We admit waiting students in order until the course is full or it is too late to begin your studies.

Placed on a waiting list?

If you are placed on a waiting list you can't register to that course. You need to wait for an email from us that confirms your admission. The email will also tell you how to register.

We will contact you on the email address listed on your application. Please make sure the address is up to date.

Please note that not all who are on a waiting list will be admitted.

Registration in Ladok or through a roll-call?

Please note that not all our courses have registration through Ladok.

If the course starts at the beginning of the semester and has registration in Ladok you need to register before the registration closes to not risk losing your spot. Check the date carefully in Ladok.

If the course har registration at the first class (roll call) you need to attend that class to not risk losing your spot, or contact the teacher before class if you are unable to attend.

Roll-call registration spring 2026

The following courses has registration through a roll call at the first class. That means that you can not register to them in Ladok, but instead have to attend the first class or contact the teacher to be registered.

You can find out who the teacher is on the course page in Studium (available for admitted students up to two weeks after the start of the course).

The list will be updated before the semester starts.

Master's Programme in Language Technology

To be registered to our programme courses you either need to contact the programme coordinator Eva Pettersson, or go to the first class.

If you take courses at other departments you may need to register through Ladok. If you have any questions regarding registration, please ask the department that gives the course.

Conditionally admitted

If you are admitted with conditions you can't register. You need to contact the department and show that you fulfill all prerequisite requirements before we can register you.

If you don't fulfill all requirements before the course starts you may lose your spot. If you are waiting for credits that will make you eligible we can take that into consideration, but we will still not be able to register you until all conditions are met.

Re-registration

If you alreade have been registered to a course (and not withdrawn withn 3 weeks), you can't be admitted to that course again. You can only be re-registered, and that only if there is room for you. That means that we have to offer a spot to all newly admitted students, including those on the waiting list, before we can re-register you.

Our policy is to, when possible, offer one (1) chance to re-register. We only make multiple re-registrations to the same course if the student has particular reasons (medical, social, or other) for not passing the course on the first two attempts.
