Exchange studies
Exchange studies provide international experience and new perspectives, and in addition, you get increased language skills and the opportunity to get to know another culture. As a student, you have many opportunities to study abroad via one of the University's exchange agreements.
The Department of Sociology has five exchange agreements of its own:
- The Max Weber Institute for Sociology at Heidelberg University in Germany
- Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU) in Germany
- TU Dortmund University in Germany
- The University of Trento in Italy
- The Faculty of Humanities at Charles University in the Czech Republic
Through these agreements, you can deepen and broaden your knowledge in the subject of sociology.
For those of you who are from other foreign universities, Uppsala University also has general exchange agreements with about 150 partner universities worldwide. Through them, you can come on an exchange and the studies are not limited to the sociology subject. Read more about General exchange agreements here.
selection
If more complete applications are received than available places, a selection will be made based on an assessment of the motivation letter (Academic Purpose Statement) attached to the application. In this, you must justify why you want to go on exchange, with a clear study-related focus, as opposed to a regular trip abroad. Describe, for example, how your sociological thinking can benefit from the exchange studies, e.g. if there are special sociology courses that cannot be taken in Uppsala, how your future professional career can benefit from the exchange or what other useful lessons you can gain from the exchange.
The assessment takes place as follows:
4 points - Exceptionally strong justification
3 points - Strong justification
2 points - Perfect justification
1 point - Weak justification
If two or more applicants to the same university receive the same number of points on their letter of motivation, grades are decisive. The applicant with the highest proportion of VG (ie completed credits with VG in grade divided by the total number of credits) gets the place. If the proportion of VG is also the same, the one with the most credits in total gets the place.
Exchange report No later than one month after the completed exchange, you must submit a written exchange report. In this, you describe your experiences from the university, the place of study and other things that may be relevant for future students to take part in and for the department to evaluate the exchange activities through.
