I like that it is a very open environment. Especially since many of my courses have only a few students, they are more collaborative, and you get to know your peers.

How did you choose your programme?
– I have always liked chemistry, but did not see myself working in a lab. Theoretical and computational chemistry immediately felt right. And since computational studies are becoming better and more widely used, it seems like a good field to develop skills for the future.

What is the best thing about studying at Uppsala University?
– I like that it is a very open environment. Especially since many of my courses have only a few students, they are more collaborative, and you get to know your peers. I also like that they take their break seriously.

Was there anything you found difficult or surprising when you started your studies at Uppsala University?
– The thing that I find the most difficult is how early it gets dark in the winter. I have heard that there is a light room, but I have not tried it out yet.

Describe the student life!
– A big part of student life in Uppsala is the student nations. They organise parties, pubs, fancy dinners called ‘gasques’, lunches, quizzes, sports activities, and much more. When you are a member of one nation, you can visit all of them, so there is no pressure when choosing one.

Name three things you are doing this week
– This week, I have started a new course: Statistical Thermodynamics. I will also be volunteering at the career fair for Science and Engineering students called Utnarm. On the weekend, I am planning to visit Stockholm, which is only 45 minutes by train!

What advice would you give to someone considering applying for this programme?
– First go through all the information you can find and ask questions if you have any. Then, take some time to let everything sink in. You will know it is the right decision if you still feel excited for it a while later.

What is your favourite place in Uppsala?
– Västgöta nation. Last year I was a brunch host here, so I got to know a lot of people. The nation has a very cozy atmosphere.

Where is the best place to study?
– The library at Ångström is the best place to study, especially the comfy chairs near the window.

How did you choose your programme?
– I was introduced to theoretical chemistry during my Bachelor’s programme and found it to be very interesting. Having wanted to pursue a Master’s, I chose Uppsala University because of its detailed and extensive programme in that field of study.

What is it like to be an international student?
– Overall, it has been a very positive experience, while it has not always been easy to adapt to living abroad, Uppsala has been very welcoming. Being an international student has helped me to become a more independent and confident person.

What is the best thing about studying at Uppsala University?
– I have found the staff at Uppsala University to be very understanding and supportive. While individual learning has been encouraged, additionally promoting group work and team building has created a motivated and healthy academic environment.

What is your reason for studying, or your ultimate goal?
– I am driven to study because I love learning about new things, problem-solving and working on projects.

Describe the student life
– Uppsala has a very active student life. Apart from hosting different social events, such as parties and “gasques”, other social activities including yoga, hiking, badminton and so on are also organised to accommodate everyone’s interests.
