Entry requirements
200 credits within the F programme where the compulsory courses within the specialisation (Applied physics) are approved. Depending on project, additional courses will be required.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student should be able to
- construct a project plan, perform the project according to this plan, continuously report on the status of the project and reasons for, and solutions to, deviations from the original plan
- show deep knowledge about a selected part of applied physics
- search for, interpret and collect relevant scientific and technical literature
- limit a technical problem, find, analyse, interpret and evaluate possible solutions, as well we if required generate hypotheses to explain observations or technical solutions
- orally and in written form present the project in a scientifically and semantically correct way.
Content
Initial (compulsory) lecture on project management. A selection of projects in applied physics at university departments or external companies will be made available and offered to the students. The students are also able to suggest their own projects in collaboration with university departments or external companies.
Instruction
Project work in a group of two or three students, or alone. Lectures.
Assessment
Oral (5 hp) and written (9 hp) presentation of the project. Compulsory participation at the guest lecture on project management and hand-in of status reports (1 hp). The oral presentation takes place at the end of the course at Uppsala University, occasionally also at the supervisor’s affiliation.
