Entry requirements
120 credits in science/engineering and Additive Manufacturing in Polymeric Materials and Additive Manufacturing in Metallic and Ceramic Materials. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.
Learning outcomes
After a successfully completed course the student should be able to:
- Compare the typical surface character and surface properties of AM processes with conventionally produced surfaces,
- Discuss how the surface topography, microstructure, etc., influences functional properties,
- Describe different principles for post processing and surface engineering,
- Select suitable methods for finishing and surface treatment of an AM component, based on the specific requirements of the component.
Content
Mechanical, topographical, microstructural and chemical characterization of surfaces. Methods for processing and modification of component surfaces printed in metals and polymers, including grit blasting, shot peening, grinding, heat treatment, mechanical and chemical polishing.
Instruction
Lectures, group project and laboration
Assessment
Project seminar (1 hp) and written exam (4 hp).
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
