Entry requirements
120 credits with 75 credits in physics or 75 credits in chemistry. Introduction to Materials Science. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course the student shall be able to:
- name the specifics of neutron scattering methods and what they are particularly strong at
- bring neutron scattering into context with complementary techniques
- demonstrate knowledge of the scattering process of neutrons in materials
- relate neutron scattering data to physical phenomena
- evaluate the applicability of a neutron scattering experiments to answer specific research questions.
- assess the practical requirements of neutron scattering experiments with respect to instrumentation and sample design.
Content
Bulk scattering, surface scattering, soft matter, magnetic structures, magnetic excitations, lattice vibrations, vibrational spectroscopy, diffusion, contrast variation.
Instruction
Lectures, seminars and lessons.
Assessment
Oral presentation in seminar form and written report.
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
