Entry requirements
200 credits within the Master's Programme in Engineering Physics, including 30 credits at Master's level. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course the student shall be able to:
- construct a project plan, independently perform the project according to this plan, continuously report on the status of the project and reasons for, and solutions to, deviations from the original plan
- search for, interpret and collect relevant scientific and technical literature
- evaluate scientific and technical literature and apply ethical principles when using it in the project
- show deep knowledge about a selected part of applied physics
- limit a technical problem, find, analyse, interpret and evaluate possible solutions, as well we if required generate hypotheses to explain observations or technical solutions
- orally and in written form present the project in a scientifically and semantically correct way.
Content
Initial lectures in project management and project leading, how a project is done at a work place. Ethical aspects, search for information, how information is valued, references and plagiarism. Independent project with continuous reports on progression.
A selection of projects in industry and within research groups within the different areas of applied physics will be offered. Students can also propose their own projects in collaboration with industry or research groups. It is possible that projects can be done in a larger group with members from several directions within the master's programme in engineering physics when suitable project leaders offer such projects.
Instruction
Project work in a group of two or three students, or alone. Lectures.
Assessment
Oral (5 hp) and written (9 hp) presentation of the project. Compulsory participation at the guest lectures on project management and literature searches and hand-in of status reports (1 hp). The oral presentation takes place at the end of the course at Uppsala University, occasionally also at the supervisor's affiliation. In connection with the oral presentation there will be an opposition.
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
