Entry requirements

A Bachelor's degree, equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen, from an internationally recognised university. Also required is 90 credits in psychology with at least 7.5 credits in methods and statistics. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.

Learning outcomes

1. Demonstrate an in depth understanding of research questions currently being investigated at one of the Departments Divisions, as well as of key constructs and their operationalizations.
2. Demonstrate an ability to critically evaluate and interpret methods and findings within the context of the department's divisions.
3. Demonstrate the skills required to take part in empirical research work in the context of the departments Divisions, under instruction and supervision by research staff. This entails practical use of relevant methods and lab equipment (e.g. eye tracking, measurement of galvanic skin response) and analytical techniques (e.g. mathematical modelling).
4. Demonstrate ability to identify one's own need for further knowledge and to take personal responsibility to develop that knowledge.
5. Demonstrate the ability to communicate and discuss research questions, methods and findings both with different audiences in mind, both in oral and written form.
6. Demonstrate awareness of ethical aspects of research in general, and the principles of ethics review of research in Sweden in particular.
7. Demonstrate awareness of issues linked to Open Science and different views on the Reproducibility Crisis in psychology and how it can be handled.
8. Demonstrate an ability to evaluate how contemporary research in psychology contributes to sustainability goals for society.

Content

The student will be placed in one of the department's divisions during the internship. Each student will have a primary contact person (Internship Mentor) within the Division, and will  - together with him/her - develop an Internship Plan at the start of the internship which specifies the expectations, roles and tasks linked to the internship. This plan will be submitted to the course leader, who reviews it to check that it covers the relevant learning outcomes. Although the details of the internship is flexible and up to the Divisions to decide, students will work practically, e.g. with data collection, data coding, literature search/reviews, as well as actively participate in seminars. They will engage in communication and outreach activities (scientific and popular). Some of the learning outcomes will be covered through non-Division specific seminars (ethical issues, open science/reproducibility, sustainability).

Assessment

Active participation on a daily basis in practical tasks linked to the Divisions research activities. Active participation in seminars. Presentations and communication about the research to academic and non-academic audiences. The Division mentor will fill in an internship evaluation report for each student, which will constitute one part of the examination.
