Entry requirements

A Bachelor’s degree (equivalent to a Swedish kandidatexamen) from an internationally recognised university

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, students are expected to be able to

  1. describe a selection of key areas/works in Swedish and international research on knowledge production and knowledge transfer
  2. demonstrate the ability to independently reflect on different research traditions in the history of education
  3. reflect orally and in writing on how perspectives from the history of education can be used in their own research work

Content

The course provides an advanced introduction to research on the history of education. The focus is on issues relating to education, knowledge production and knowledge transfer based on various research traditions, such as the history of knowledge, the history of science, the history of universities and the history of media. Examples of topics covered include boundaries between disciplines, forms of knowledge and institutions, relationships between research, education and popular science, and the significance of social and cultural relationships for how knowledge is produced and communicated. The course aims to enable students to apply the perspectives presented in their own research.

Instruction

The course consists of lectures and seminars. The language of instruction is English.

Assessment

Students are assessed by written assignments as well as by active participation in the seminars.
