About the course
Why do some areas in a region of civil war remain at peace? Shifting the focus from causes of war to causes of peace, this course asks new critical questions. The course discusses how peace can be defined and measured; concepts such as security communities and zones of peace are highlighted. The origins of and conditions for intergroup cooperation and intrastate peace will be studied. Importantly, the course also examines why certain areas of a country suffering from civil war remain tranquil.
