CIRCUS is a university-wide platform for interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research. The purpose of CIRCUS is to strengthen inter- and multidisciplinary research collaborations across subject, faculty and disciplinary domain lines at Uppsala University. CIRCUS develops research collaborations that span the entire breadth of research at Uppsala University. Organisationally, Circus is part of Uppsala University Future institutes (UUniFI).

CIRCUS offers different types of support such as support to research networks, development of cross-cutting research projects, organisation of workshops and symposia, and other activities aimed at fostering new research collaborations. Support can be provided both through open calls and with more tailored forms of support for initiatives within CIRCUS mission. CIRCUS conducts activities that enhance the ability of employees to initiate and participate in such collaborations. CIRCUS also works to develop the organisational conditions for cross-cutting research cooperation at Uppsala University.

The quality of the activities is ensured by the fact that CIRCUS has an academically rooted secretariat that is in constant contact with relevant cross-cutting research and has knowledge exchanges with national and international units with similar missions.
