U-CARE’s Programme Director, Louise von Essen, is a co-author of an editorial highlighting the need to strengthen the conditions for the patient movement in Sweden.
The article, published in the Swedish journal Dagens Medicin, argues that the government should initiate an investigation to map the current state of the patient movement, identify its needs, and propose concrete measures to ensure long-term and stable funding.
The editorial emphasizes the patient movement’s central role in the transition to good and close care, as well as its importance for Sweden to achieve its goals as a leader in Life Science and the UN’s Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The authors point out that the increasing demand for patient involvement places significant demands on the movement’s capacity, while current support structures are outdated and insufficient.
Among the co-authors of the article are several representatives both from patient organisations and academia.
