Short presentation
I am a nowadays retired faculty professor in Food studies, Nutrition and Dietetics, with particular emphasis on meal science. My research covers the broad area of public health nutrition, and I have a broad experience in internationalisation, publication and evaluation of faculties, departments and course programmes. The latter is what I have been doing during the last few years after retirement, in tasks for the European commission, university quality assurance institutions and universities.
Biography
As the faculty professor at the Department of Food studies, Nutrition and Dietetics, I have the particular focus meal science. I have been the editor-in-chief for the Journal Public Health Nutrition, published by the Nutrition Society and Cambridge University Press, during the period 2007-2012. Since 2018 I am the Preses (president) of the Academy of Culinary Arts and Meal Science.
My research spans over a broad range of topics within public health nutrition, including children's eating habits (especially fruit and vegetable intake), growth patterns, overweight, health effects of lifestyle in regards to diet and physical activity, professionals in public health nutrition as well as policy aspects on national and international level.
Previously, I have spent 26 years at Karolinska Institutet, most of the time as senior lecturer and unit head at the Department of Biosciences and Nutrition, three years in Norway as faculty professor at Oslo and Akershus University College, three years at Örebro University as faculty professor of Meal Science at the Department of Hospitality, Culinary Arts and Meal Science.
My training background is as a nutritionist, and I hold an MSc in nutrition from Stockholm University, a Master of Medical Science in Public Health from Karolinska Institutet, a doctoral degree in Medicine and an associate professor (docent) degree from Karolinska Institutet.
I have coordinated ten EU projects funded by the Commission Directorate for Health and Consumers and the Directorate for culture and education. I have also collaborated in a handful of EU projects funded by the Commission Directorate for Research.
I have spent research periods at Griffith University, Gold Coast Campus, Queensland, Australia and at Children's Nutrition Research Centre at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas, USA. I am currently adjunct faculty at Arizona State University since 2010.
I have a broad international and national network and have previously coordinated a European network in public health nutrition and have also been Director for a WHO collaborating centre at Karolinska Institutet, Sweden for four years.
I have lead seven PhD students to dissertation, five as main supervisor and two as co-supervisor. Currently, I have two PhD students as main supervisor. Recently I had a postdoctoral student from the University of Granada visiting for two years, leaving in October 2017. I have been appointed as examiner or opponent for doctoral theses in Sweden, Norway, Belgium, Ireland and Spain. I have also regularly been performing evaluations of higher education in Portugal.
My particular research interests are food and drink choice research, meal composition and meals for elderly. I am since a couple of years also on the national advisory board in public health nutrition at the National Swedish Food Administration. I am also a member of the board of directors for STINT (The Swedish Foundation for International Cooperation in Research and Higher Education) as well as a member of the Regional Research Ethics Committee in Uppsala and a member of the International Scientific Committee for the Foundation of the Mediterranean Diet.
