Realizing fossil-free steel through technological and organizational transformation

Research to identify how specialists work on co-creation to realise fossil-free production and end products.

Teknologisk och organisatorisk omställning

How are visions of fossil-free steel realized in practice? This question is answered in a research collaboration between Uppsala University and SSAB (Swedish Steel AB). The R&D unit consists of 400 employees who are geographically spread, with diverse engineering expertise, of which 60 belong to a so-called specialist network. Their main task will be to realize the corporate vision through innovations, that need to be acted upon collectively.

Their work is thus defined by an intellectually turbulent environment, which nevertheless tends to be geared towards individual ingenuity, with an identified need to stimulate more interdisciplinary collective work, demanded for the transformation. Of theoretical interest in the project are thus novel interdisciplinary skills and methods, that emerge in the wake of increased focus on interconnected challenges within business.
