Joakim Widén, Professor in Civil Engineering at Uppsala University, has been interviewed by Svensk Byggtjänst about an ongoing research project exploring how digital twins can be used to improve building renovation processes.
The project, funded by the Swedish Energy Agency, focuses on how digital building models combined with sensor data and simulations can support better decision making in renovation projects. The aim is to improve planning, reduce energy use and enable more targeted renovation measures in existing buildings.
“The aim is to investigate how renovation processes can be better planned and carried out more efficiently using digital technologies,” says Joakim Widén, Professor in Civil Engineering and head of department at the Department of Civil and Industrial Engineering.
The project started in spring and will run until 2028. In addition to developing and testing digital twins, the researchers will also produce recommendations on how the technology can be applied in practical renovation work.
