Paul Pummer defended thesis on food systems

Paul Plummer

On 17 April, Paul Pummer defended his thesis, with Laurens Klerkx, Professor at Universidad de Talca, serving as opponent. In his thesis, he examines how innovation shapes alternative ways of producing food and how such developments can contribute to more sustainable food systems.

The thesis takes two contrasting examples as its starting point: wild berries in Sweden and precision fermentation, in which genetically engineered microorganisms are used to produce food ingredients. By analysing these two areas, Paul Pummer explores how actors, networks and institutions influence the development of new forms of food production.

The thesis was presented at the Department of Civil and Industrial Engineering, Division of Industrial Engineering and Management. His supervisors were Thomas Lennerfors, Professor, and Johnn Andersson, PhD.
