Stockholm-Arlanda (ARN) is the closest airport to Uppsala.
Trains run from the airport to Uppsala Central Station (and vice versa) throughout the day and night, seven days a week. The main airport train station, Arlanda Central Station, is situated in Sky City between terminals 4 and 5. The journey to Uppsala takes approximately 20 minutes and ticket prices range from around SEK 100 to SEK 250. (Travelers who get on and off trains at Arlanda Central Station have to pay a station fee of SEK 157. If the fee is not included in your ticket price, you pay it at the ticket gates in SkyCity. The fee has no connection to the airport but concerns the use of the station itself and the railway and how these were financed when they were built in the 1990s.) You can purchase tickets from:
- The SJ website (search for trips from Arlanda C to Uppsala C)
- Ticket machines at the train station
- The ticket office at the train station
N.B. Do not take the Arlanda Express from the airport. This only goes to Stockholm! Instead, follow the signs inside the airport for the train station.
Buses run regularly and frequently from Arlanda to Uppsala Central Station (and vice versa) at a cost of around SEK 120 for a single journey, which takes around 50 minutes. (Taking the bus also means that you don’t need to pay a station fee). Take UL bus number 801, which departs from the following bus stops: Arlanda terminal 4 and Arlanda terminal 2–3. (Follow the signs for buses as you leave the airport).
Tickets can be purchased either:
- In advance via the UL app.
- Ticket machines at the bus stop.
- With a debit/credit card as you board.

Taxis from the airport to Uppsala can be booked in advance for a fixed price of SEK 675 SEK for a single journey plus SEK 30 airport pick-up fee. This can work out cheaper than the train if you are travelling in a group. We recommend Uppsala Taxi. Call: +46 (0) 18 100 000. Drivers and office staff all speak English.
