Taija Mäkinen selected as Wallenberg Scholar
Knut och Alice Wallenberg Foundation has decided to select Taija Mäkinen as Wallenberg Scholar. The award includes funding of SEK 18 million for five years.
Taija Mäkinen’s research focuses on the lymphatic vasculature and the mechanisms behind how lymphatic vessels are formed in organs and tissues. In the granted project she and her research group will study which genes control vessel formation and if lymphatic stem cells can be used to create new lymphatic vessels.
The programme Wallenberg Scholars aims to support and stimulate some of the most successful scientists at Swedish universities. Among the twenty-two approved grants this year, two are at Uppsala University’s Disciplinary Domain of Medicine and Pharmacy, and an additional four in other areas at Uppsala University.
