Preclinical Cancer Treatment (PCT) Centre
The Preclinical Cancer Treatment (PCT) Center is supported by Uppsala University - Disciplinary Domain of Medicine and Pharmacy, U-CAN and SciLifeLab. The PCT Center provide services for preclinical and clinical researchers that are evaluating novel drugs in combination with standard treatments in vivo or that conduct controlled studies for refining current cancer therapies in vivo.
The facility uses medical systems similar to those used in the clinical setting for treating patients, including high accuracy image guided irradiation, Computed Tomography (CT) imaging and standard chemotherapy treatment. The efficacy of irradiation treatment or of e.g. novel targeted therapies can be further evaluated using bioluminescent imaging.
Service at PCT
The facility located in Uppsala provides researchers in academia, industry, and clinical departments with the following services:
- Help with irradiation treatment planning
- Multi-fractionated image-guided radiotherapy
- Chemotherapy
- CT imaging
- 3D bioluminescence imaging
- Tumor model development
- Drug administration
- Tumor resection and sampling
- Animal ethical permit consultation
- In vivo ADME (with SciLifeLab/DDD)
We work in synergy with other SciLifeLab platforms like the National Genomics Infrastructure (NGI), Drug Discovery Development (DDD), the Preclinical PET Platform (PPP), and other imaging facilities at the University.
Equipment
The PCT Center is equipped with both an advanced cone-beam-CT guided X-ray irradiator and a bioluminescence imaging system.
Using the PCT facility
The PCT Center is accepting project proposals that will be evaluated by the staff and a board of advisors. For projects that are considered to be feasible, the facility staff together with the researcher will decide how to proceed and how the project will be executed.
Applications
The PCT Center is open for project applications. Please contact tobias.bergstrom@igp.uu.se for further instructions.
