Research at the Department of Literature and Rhetoric

The department conducts research within the fields of Literary studies and Rhetoric. In recent decades, research has focused on areas such as 18th-century studies, 19th-century literary and rhetorical cultures, gender research, studies of the literary field and the book market, audiobook research, ecocriticism, media history, political rhetoric, doxology and empirical reader research.

In addition to our higher seminars, which take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, two thematic seminar series are organized: the literature didactic seminar (SELD) and the interdisciplinary 18th century seminar. Furthermore, the Swedish Society of Literature, which publishes Samlaren, has its base at the department. The department also participates with researchers in the program Engaging Vulnerability.

We currently employ around 20 professors, lecturers and researchers, as well as around ten PhD students. A large number of researchers are also affiliated with the department and participate in our research collaborations. The department's many researchers contribute to the scientific conversation with a large number of publications each year – from scientific reviews and essays to monographs in several volumes. We also participate regularly as experts in the media.
