“One factor that has contributed both to Lund’s and Uppsala’s positions is their fine performance in the QS Sustainability Rankings for 2023 – place 11 and 12 respectively,” says Emma Östlund, controller at the Planning Division, Uppsala University.
The company QS is known for its annual ranking of world universities, which is regarded as one of the three leading rankings and is closely watched by universities, the media, students, researchers and many others. The ranking of European universities uses the same indicators as the QS World University Ranking, though with a slightly different weighting to fit the European context better.
In all, 690 institutions in 42 countries are listed, including 106 universities that have never previously been ranked by QS. The University of Oxford takes first place in Europe, while ETH Zürich is second and the University of Cambridge comes third. The United Kingdom, represented by 107 selected universities, is the country with most institutions in the ranking, followed by Turkey with 73 and Germany with 53.
Uppsala University’s best places are in Sustainability and Employment Outcomes. The latter indicator is based on the actual employment of alumni.
