Project description

The goal of this proposal is to provide theoretical foundations for electronic correlation effects in molecular and nanoscale structures under non-equilibrium conditions. More specifically, I will focus on correlation effects that involve electronic interactions competing or cooperating with other types of interactions that arise from internal degrees of freedom, for instance, molecular vibrations and spin excitations.

Central to this proposal is, therefore, studies of charge, spin, and heat transport properties that may be used to probe physical mechanisms, competing or cooperating interactions, and fluctuations. Accordingly, special attention will also be paid to noise spectroscopy, which is a technique that can be successfully employed to determine excitation spectrum in quantum fluctuating entities.

The proposed investigations are extremely pertinent since the performance and functionality of molecular electronics devices strongly depend on its excitation spectrum. All considered effects, correlation and inelastic, will be treated under non-equilibrium conditions since any type of molecular electronics device designed for, e.g., energy production, or energy conversion, is by construction in a non-equilibrium configuration.
