X-ray Based Methodology
Developing innovative instruments has always expanded our knowledge-horizon; all four Nobel prizes in science awarded to Uppsala University are closely related to instrument development. The instruments we develop today are aimed at providing even deeper insights into fundamental processes in matter by understanding the electronic structure on the atomic length and time scale.

One such recent development is the Uppsala coordination of the Uppsala Berlin joint Laboratory (UBjL) allowing for low dose photoemission on sensitive samples and the possibility to measure Coincidence ESCA.
Other areas of research include continuous improvement of our local laser source HELIOS for time-resolved photoemission, time-resolved MOKE and efficient bandmapping as well as making femtosecond-resolution RIXS at an XFEL possible.

Long term visions (>3 years) include the PETRA-III beamline, sub-meV with the FTS, exploring new opportunities with higher harmonic generation for time resolved core level spectroscopy, RIXS map spectrometer (further development of femtoseconds-resolution RIXS) and high kinetic energy ARToF.
