Research Focus
The Uppsala Affective Neuroscience Group dates back to 1993 when Mats Fredrikson, having conducted pioneering PET research on phobias, became a new professor in clinical psychology in Uppsala. Our mission is to get a better understanding of the neural underpinnings of fear, anxiety, and negative affect and the brain mechanisms involved in effective treatment of such conditions. Research activities range from experimental trials on fear memories to treatment studies of human anxiety disorders, using a variety of methodologies including neuroimaging with fMRI and PET.
