Child Development in Bhutan
The Kingdom of Bhutan is a country in the eastern Himalayas where 83% identify as Buddhists. Together with colleagues at the Faculty of Nursing and Public Health, and the Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan, we investigate how children’s development is affected by the context in which they live, for example by parental mental health, poverty, and urbanization.
Child development is not homogeneous around the world and researchers from Western (so called WEIRD) societies and the majority world need to collaborate in order to understand diversity and context dependency in child development.
